This is a past event. Stay tuned for a follow-up post to see how it went, who was there, and what they had to say about it.

Patrick Blythe

Tuesday, June 13 from 5:30PM to 7:00PM
Coachella Valley Art Center
45140 Towne Street, Indio, CA 92201

The California Desert Arts Council (CDAC) is having their second Arts Salon event at the Coachella Valley Art Center in Indio, CA. today at 5:30 pm.

Patrick Blythe is the featured speaker of this free arts salon. This Indio-based bronze, stone, and glass sculptor will discuss his work and his life at Coachella Valley Art Center in downtown Indio, where he has a studio and offers instruction and collaboration opportunities with other artists. Blythe will discuss his love of art, his career, inspiration, and his place within the art community.

brownian’s thoughts (pre-event)

Blythe’s work is varied and diverse in materials, technique, subject and style. His photo albums on social media are like a window into his mind with the angles and subjects of his photos having consistent motifs that mirror his sculptural styles. An avid interest cathedrals and ancient architecture is contrasted by his many angular, abstract, modern art pieces. Some, like “Harvest” which an be seen installed on El Paseo in Palm Desert, are almost Art Deco in there smooth, graceful geometry. But then there are the glass cathedral pieces like “The Grief of Love Lasts a Life” which are incredibly detailed miniature scenes. His glass obelisks like “First Light” are sharply angular from a distance but belie an undulating, organic surface structure full of random color play and imperfections at the fine detail level while remaining austere and majestic on the macro scale.

I am looking forward to what promises to be a fascinating presentation and discussion with an equally fascinating artist. As always, so much love for the California Desert Arts Council for bringing these wonderful events to the community and connecting creatives across the valley.
